Earth Day

Today is Earth Day, a day which is celebrated across the world to raise awareness and encourage people to protect our planet from issues like pollution and deforestation. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and by 1990 Earth Day was an event celebrated in more than 140 countries around the globe!

There are lots of ways we can help make our world a happier, healthier place to live.

We thought we would share a few of our tips to help make our diets a little more sustainable.

  • Try a meat free Monday – many of our schools have already adopted this idea.
  • Use seasonal ingredients – choosing products in season can help lower carbon footprint, as foods haven’t had to travel long distances. This month try rhubarb, beetroot, new potatoes and spring onions.
  • Reduce food waste – try menu planning to incorporate leftovers.
  • Pass on plastic – where possible avoid foods wrapped in plastic, try opting for loose fruit & veg.
  • Recycle food packaging where possible.

What are your tips for helping the planet?
