Job description:

To organise and supervise the catering establishment in accordance with and to the standard required by Edwards & Ward Ltd and Statutory Regulations.  To be responsible for the preparation, cooking and service of food.  To ensure that efficient and economic use of food is made of all resources.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To plan, operate and control the production and service of food related duties.
  • To take responsibility for the standard of cleanliness, hygiene and security of premises and equipment.
  • To order all food and other commodities required from designated suppliers.
  • To operate and control stocks, stock records and ensure correct completion and submission of all appropriate returns and records to the target dates identified.
  • To assess and adjust or in conjunction with the District Manager, assess and adjust levels of staffing and to participate where required in the selection, appointment and termination of employment of catering staff.
  • To ensure correct procedures are followed in the handling of cash where appropriate.
  • To control and assist with any other catering functions.
  • To maintain Edwards & Ward Ltd standards of kitchen and personal hygiene and health and safety and operate to the standard required by the statutory Health & Safety & Hygiene Regulations. This will include the induction and training of staff.
  • There may be a requirement to transfer to another catering contract unit within a reasonable geographical distance and with reasonable notice for a limited period.
  • To prepare the dining area which may include moving and setting up furniture, setting trolleys and the cleaning and dismantling of these as required.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the catering establishment. This may include cash collection and banking.

Qualifications/Experience

Appropriate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills to perform the duties required of the post.  Catering experience and basic food hygiene certificate preferred but not essential.  (NVQ level 3 or City & Guilds 706/1 & 706/2 an advantage.)

30 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Job description:

To provide support in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages plus related catering duties.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • To prepare the dining area which may include moving and setting up furniture, setting trolleys and the cleaning and dismantling of these as required.
  • To prepare the service area, hot cupboards and other equipment in the dining centre for the efficient and effective service of the meal.
  • To assist in the preparation, cooking and serving of food and beverages as defined by Edwards & Ward.
  • To wash dishes, cutlery, tumblers, jugs, serving utensils, containers, tables, and all other catering equipment in the dining centre.
  • To serve food according to the style and type of operation as defined by Edwards & Ward.
  • To clean on a daily basis all catering areas to standards laid down by Edwards & Ward as directed.
  • To undergo on and off the job training session as required by Edwards & Ward Management.
  • To inform the Cook In Charge of any defects in light equipment.
  • To inform Cook In Charge of any defects in heavy equipment or of premises not meeting Health and Safety and/or Food Hygiene Regulations Standards.
  • There may be a requirement to transfer to another Catering Contract Unit within a reasonable geographical distance and with reasonable notice.
  • Such other related duties as are required to ensure the dining area and kitchen is in a clean and hygienic condition and that the food service is effective and efficient.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the Catering establishment. This may include cash collection and banking.
